Lizzo promises to continue being a voice for fat Black women
Lizzo is currently facing a lot of scrutiny and it’s due to her background dancers. Recently, she won big at the Black Music Action Coalition gala. Behind her was several of her background dancers. Some felt this was her way of responding to the controversy that she finds her name in. Last night, she won the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award. During her acceptance speech, she said she would keep on speaking up for fat Black women.
Lizzo originally began making music, professionally, in 2013. However, in 2016, she made bigger efforts in order to be seen. At the time, it looked like her efforts were futile. Her music got a bit of recognition, but it wasn’t enough to put her where she wanted to be. As a result, Lizzo made peace with where her career was. However, the right people heard her song, “Truth Hurts,” and they liked it. After that, she rose to fame in 2019, and hasn’t looked back.
Lizzo was embraced by mainstream America and she took over the world in 2019. In 2020, the whole world slowed down, but Lizzo came back for everything in 2021. Sadly, during that time, she became the victim of social media bullying, and fat shaming. As a result, Lizzo spoke out against the bullies. Last night, she was at the Black Music Action Coalition gala. She won the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award. When she gave her speech, she vowed to forever speak up for the fat Black women in the world.
