Lizzo has become one of the most popular artists in the world since 2019 and it all started with the success of her breakout hit single, “Truth Hurts.” What many don’t know is that this was actually released back in 2017 but took off after appearing in the Netflix film, ‘Someone Great.’ Her 2016 “Good As Hell” single also took off and received a remix with Ariana Grande. She went on to release her third studio album, ‘Cuz I Luv You,’ in April of last year.

Lizzo was nominated in multiple categories at the BET Awards tonight and she just won the award for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. This was definitely a star-studded category as she scored a huge win over Beyoncé, H.E.R., Summer Walker, Kehlani, and Jhené Aiko. Summer Walker emerged as a breakout star in R&B in 2019 as she released her debut studio album, ‘Over It,‘ in the fall which featured her hit single, “Girls Need Love” remix feat. Drake. The success she experienced last year had many fans believing that she could’ve won this award tonight.

Lizzo’s ‘Cuz I Luv You‘ initially debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. It has since been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States as well.
