On Monday night, the 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebrations continued on television. This time, the “Hip-Hop @ 50: Rhythms, Rhymes & Reflections” panel aired on ABC, and also on Hulu, in a Juneteenth special.
This Hip-Hop @ 50 special contained panelists such as Lola Brooke, MC Lyte, Angie Martinez, and more. The women discussed women’s contributions to the story of hip-hop, both in front of and behind the camera.
Lola’s stardom has quickly been soaring, as she’s been one of the biggest new artists out of New York, over the past year. Her 2021 “Don’t Play With It” single with Billy B went viral last fall, as the remix with Latto and Yung Miami was also released, this spring. Furthermore, Lola signed with Arista Records at the top of this year, and also put out singles such as “So Disrespectful” and “Just Relax.” As a result, Lola has also been performing on plenty of big stages this year as well, such as Summer Jam NY, as well as the upcoming Rolling Loud festival in Miami, in July.
