There has been a two year wait for Ludacris to return with new music. At one point, Ludacris was preparing for the end of his career. In many ways, Ludacris was rising to Jay-Z-like proportions in the rap game. Ludacris built his record label and used his position to start other business for himself and, like Jay-Z, Ludacris planned for his retirement.

Ludacris intended to complete the long-promised Battle of the Sexes album with Shawnna. In the middle of the recording, Shawnna left his DTP label. As a result, Ludacris was forced to complete the album on his own. WithBattle of the Sexesas his solo album, Ludacris recruited guests for the project and fell back in love with music.

Last fall, Ludacris released a holdover for his fans with 1.21 Giga Watts mixtape, which contained a rumored diss to Big Sean. Though Ludacris maintained a strong relationship with Kanye West, he did not have much love for the newcomer. Big Sean never directly addressed the situation, nor did Ludacris until he spoke to Bootleg Kev about Ludaversal and the feud.
