Lupe Fiasco and Pete Rock end feud, plan to collaborate

Following a four-year gap in album releases, Lupe Fiasco returned last year with the release of his Lasers album. Even with the promotion of the album, Lupe Fiasco was met with opposition from his label, Atlantic Records. The label continued to change the album, forcing Lupe Fiasco to record the type of songs he did not like recording.

Finally receiving a release date, Lupe Fiasco was met with strong commercial success, but the album left critics wanting more. Promising to make it up to his longtime fans, Lupe Fiasco promised he would soon release a sequel to his Food & Liquor debut. Over a year since the release of his last album, Lupe Fiasco is putting together his fourth studio album.

The first single from the album, “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” featured a sample of Pete Rock’s “T.R.O.Y.” Despite the single being met with a strong fan and critical reaction, some were unimpressed, notably Pete Rock. The veteran producer had choice words for Lupe Fiasco, the song’s producer, and the song itself.

Lupe Fiasco spoke on this with “The Morning Riot,” but the situation was quickly diffused when Pete Rock revealed he and Lupe talked and everything between the two was good. With the issues in the past, Pete Rock said fans can expect a collaboration between the two in the near future. The two could possibly be uniting for the upcoming Food & Liquor II.
