After releasing his first two albums in consecutive years, Lupe Fiasco ran into several delays when he attempted to release his third studio album. The final straw came when Lupe Fiasco’s single, “Nothin’ on You,” featuring Bruno Mars, was given to label-mate, B.o.B. Tired of the treatment, Lupe Fiasco considered suicide, something he revealed when Lasers was finally given a release date.

Early last year, Lupe Fiasco threatened to end his career because Atlantic Records would not give him a release date for his album. In February, Lasers leaked and was a strong commercial success. Lupe Fiasco remained unpleased with the album, because it was very commercial-inspired. Atlantic Records forced many songs off the album.

An effort to make things up to the fans, Lupe Fiasco announced he was working on a sequel to his debut album, Food & Liquor. Lupe Fiasco said this album would be a return to his roots. A little over a year after the release of his third album, Lupe Fiasco is completing his new album. During an interview with Fuse, Lupe Fiasco revealed the release date for the first single, May 22, and he discussed a few album tracks.
