M.I.A. announces Roc Nation departure on Twitter

M.I.A.Back in 2008, Jay-Z left Def Jam to create his “superlabel,” Roc Nation. The new company changed the landscape of the music industry when Jay-Z added familiar names, such as Rihanna and Kanye West to the company. He also added newcomers, such as M.I.A. and J. Cole.

J. Cole didn’t get his true chance to shine until two years ago, but M.I.A. got immediate burn with the company. M.I.A. did the hook on “Swagga Like Us,” the shared single with T.I. and Jay-Z featuring Kanye West and Lil Wayne. She also sang the hook for “Brooklyn (Go Hard)” and had her “Paper Planes” single.

M.I.A. ended up having a baby and took time off to be a mother. Last year, M.I.A. made her return and this year, she found Lorde occupying her lane. The future looks to be bright for M.I.A. still and now it looks like she will be starting the year with a new company, as she announced on Twitter that she would be leaving Roc Nation.
