With “Same Love,” Macklemore and Ryan Lewis endeared hearts and they made hip hop history. No one on that big of a scale ever rapped about sexual equality and they broke barriers in that regard. Despite their efforts, there are a lot of people who are not convinced by the Seattle duo.
Their accepting nature and their independent hustle led to their sweep of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Of course, the duo ended up hitting the stage to perform their overwhelming hit, “Same Love.” Still, there are a lot of people who are not convinced by the Seattle duo.
If they have indeed read the YouTube comments, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis face backlash in their top markets, Seattle and the homosexual community. Today, New York rapper, Le1f, called out Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for exploiting the gay community. He also accused them of stealing the “Thrift Shop” theme from him.
Le1f is a openly homosexual rapper and he took offense to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and he sent off a flurry of tweets letting people know. Although he has since deleted the tweets, citing no need to have a rap beef, Buzzfeed acquired the tweets Le1f had in regards to the “Same Love” movement spearheaded by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. As an authentic homosexual rapper, Le1f isn’t buying their message.
