The city of Detroit is truly a mystifying place and for many reasons. First, there is the abandonment that the city has become known for. Second, there is the restoration efforts people have put forth. Third, the city is historic and iconic. During its prime, Detroit was “Paris of the West.” Now the city has a bad rap, known for being crime infested. A man from the city was livestreaming his Madden game, when a drive by could be heard from his stream. This reinforces the negative stereotypes.

Detroit is a city that was once the fourth largest in the United States. It is hard to imagine a time when the city of Detroit was larger than places such as Los Angeles and Houston. However, during the height of the automobile boom, Detroit’s population ballooned. As a result, all kinds of talents began emerging from Detroit. Among the talents was Motown Records, founded by Detroit native, Berry Gordy. The company would become iconic in its own right.

While there is much more to Detroit than the abandonment and crime, that is all the internet knows the city for. Truth be told, every city deals with these problems. However, some places are better than others, when it comes to keeping these problems out of the public eye. In this case, it was hard to contain what was going on. The man was playing Madden, sharing the game on livestream. In the middle of the game, shots rang out, causing him to pause the game to acknowledge what happened.
