Meek Mill, Jay Z, Alicia Keys and More at Roc Nation Write Letter To Government Officials in Georgia Asking For Justice in Ahmaud Arbery Case

Social media has done an amazing job in helping make the arrests of 64 and 34-year-old Gregory and Travis McMichael happen, the two white men who are father and son in Brunswick, Georgia who shot and killed unarmed 25-year-old black man Ahmaud Arbery on February 23 after chasing him down in a truck. He was unarmed and simply going for a jog. He was racially profiled due to the false claims that there were neighborhood break-ins.

The two have since been charged with murder with no bone. The problem that we constantly see though when it comes to black men getting killed in America is that their killers always sadly get off free. Roc Nation is concerned about this as they recently wrote a letter to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Georgia AG Christopher Darr and District Attorney Tom Durden, according to TMZ.

Among the artists included in the letter were Jay Z, Meek Mill, Alicia Keys, and Yo Gotti. They want the McMichaels to be convicted and arrest the man who filmed the video of Arbery being killed.

“By now, we’ve all seen the crime’s disturbing video, so the facts here are not in doubt: He was unarmed and innocent and the victim of a hate crime. Which is why we call upon you today, as official leaders of the Great State of Georgia, and with the entire world watching, to ensure that a fair trial is conducted, as that can only lead to the appropriate felony convictions of both McMichaels. We also implore you to charge William Bryan as an armed accomplice to the crime.”

Roc Nation also calls for Durden to leave this case alone due to this situation being a conflict of interest.This is due to the 64-year-old McMichael being a former police officer and the two knew each other. A special prosecutor is also being requested in this case. Roc Nation is grateful that arrests have been made though.

“We truly appreciate that you have arrested and charged these men with Ahmaud’s murder, and are hopeful that a trial and conviction will show that, in the state that gave us Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and has been the site of the best and worst of the Civil Rights movement, Dr. King’s words do ring true: ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.'”
