Meek Mill was arguably the most promising rapper in the game, in 2012. Back then, Meek Mill brought something new to the game. Rising from Philadelphia, Meek Mill was the first rapper to rise to fame in over a decade from the city. When Meek Mill signed with Maybach Music, he joined the hottest label in the game.

Meek Mill had a historic run, dominating the summers of 2011 and 2012. At the end of 2012, Meek Mill released his debut album, Dreams and Nightmares. The album’s intro became one of the most freestyled songs of all time. A decade later, Joe Budden is arguing that Meek Mill had the best rap album intro of all time, with the “Dreams and Nightmares Intro.”

Meek Mill also joined Roc Nation’s management, at the end of 2012. Under the tutelage of Jay-Z, Meek Mill went from being another young rapper bragging about money to completing major business deals. As a result, Meek Mill’s Dreamchasers label went from being a label in name only to being in a partnership with Atlantic Records. Along with that, Meek Mill became heavy in prison reform, among other ventures. This morning, news broke that Meek Mill has departed Roc Nation, after ten years of them managing his career.
