One of hip hop’s most recent success stories is Meek Mill, who rose the ranks of the mixtape scene in Philadelphia. Becoming the hottest rapper in his city led Meek Mill to sign with Maybach Music in 2011. The past three years have seen Meek Mill drop hit singles all on top of each other.
While Meek Mill’s success in 2011 helped restore Philadelphia to mainstream attention for it’s hip hop, French Montana had a similar run. French Montana represents New York City and they returned to the forefront strongly. The two almost became label-mates when French almost signed with Maybach Music.
Despite not becoming label-mates, French Montana kept a close relationship with the whole MMG. Over the past three years, they have all worked together and appeared in each other’s music videos. Meek Mill is working on his second album, just like French Montana, and he previewed an upcoming track with French on his Instagram last night.
