Missing Texas woman found in alligator’s jaws in Clear Lake
In a tragic and shocking discovery, the body of a missing Texas woman was found inside the jaws of an alligator along the banks of Horsepen Bayou in Clear Lake. The woman, believed to be in her 60s, went missing Monday evening after leaving for a walk and was discovered less than 12 hours later on Tuesday morning.
Houston police officers, who were searching the area, found the alligator still chewing on the woman’s remains. To prevent further damage to the body, an officer shot and killed the alligator. A dive team then recovered both the body and the alligator from the bayou.
The victim’s identity has not yet been revealed, and her cause of death will be determined following an autopsy. Her husband reported her missing early Tuesday morning after she failed to return home from her walk. The discovery was made near Coastal Oak Drive, close to the victim’s Brook Forest Drive home.
Texas game wardens assisted with the recovery efforts, and Houston police are leading the investigation. Angela Derous, a local resident, mentioned that alligators are common in the bayou, though attacks are rare. The last fatal alligator attack in Texas occurred in 2015.
Maggie Berger, a spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement Division, extended condolences to the woman’s family and confirmed that Houston police are handling the investigation.
This rare and tragic incident has left the Clear Lake community shaken and underscores the potential dangers posed by wildlife in the area.
