Mos Def gets arrested in Cape Town for “allegedly contravening the country’s immigration laws”

Feeling as if he needed a change, Mos Def said he would be changing his name to Yasiin Bey, entering 2012. Unlike Diddy, who has succeeded in several name changes, Mos Def has seen his situation remain the same, when it comes to names. Still, he is a pioneer, especially in hip hop.

Mos Def is not only one of the first rappers to truly find his calling in acting, he is a political activist. Some younger fans may even remember him in Alicia Keys’ music video for “You Don’t Know My Name.” In the end, he’s an all-around talented guy.

Currently, Mos Def is in South Africa and he has run into legal trouble while there. Apparently, Mos Def was on a political mission and it ended with him getting arrested. Final word is that his charge is “contravening the country’s immigration laws.”
