At different periods of time, Nas and Soulja Boy have been referred to as both the best and worst rappers in the game. Both emcees have done well to amass success in this stage in time in the hip hop industry. Nas and Soulja Boy both play their positions in the game and have their own lanes.

In 2006, right before Soulja Boy emerged, Nas re-established himself with his album, Hip Hop is Dead. This album title and Nas’ reaction led to a debate about the state of the hip hop community. When Soulja Boy emerged, a lot of pundits felt as if this meant Nas was proven right.

Soulja Boy later revealed Nas killed hip hop by saying “hip hop is dead.” That was five years ago and both men have grown. Last year, Soulja Boy paid homage to Nas with his Young & Flexin mixtape cover, which was taken to resemble the photo of Nas holding the boombox, which he tweeted out and called dope.
