Ten years ago, the feud between Jay-Z and Nas was at its peak. The hip hop world was still a buzz, after hearing 2001’s exchange, Jay-Z’s “Takeover” and Nas’ “Ether.” The feud continued into 2002, with both rappers recording diss records on their 2002 efforts. But, following this, the two New York emcees went in opposite directions. Jay-Z would hang up his mic and take over Def Jam, while Nas got back to his roots.

Maturing, both rappers looked back on their feud and decided to leave it in the past. But, since the exchange of disses, neither rapper had spoken with each other. During a 2003 performance, Nas altered the words to “Ether” and Jay-Z was preparing the hip hop world for his departure. By 2005, the duo made their peace official and performed together, forming a friendship.

For six years, fans have been treated with a Jay-Z and Nas friendship, along with two classic records out of the deal. Nas was so confident in his former rival, he signed to Def Jam when Jay-Z was serving as president. Even though Jay-Z eventually left Def Jam, leaving Nas on the roster, Mr. Jones still has nothing but love for Jay-Z. When he was visiting Texas, for SXSW, Nas discussed Jay-Z with Peter Rosenberg, of Hot 97. During their interview, Nas praised Jay-Z, calling him hip hop’s savior.
