On his debut album, Drake addressed the relationship rappers have with the NBA. His line, “we wanna be them and they wanna be us,” summed it all up. It seemed fitting that Drake’s rise to mainstream hip hop stardom came when the Miami Heat “Big Three” just formed.
Like Chris Bosh, Drake went from Toronto to Miami, where he adopted the Heat as his secondary (primary) team. However, after the Raptors rose to contention, Drake took a role with them. Still, when LeBron left the Heat to return to Cleveland, Drake purchased a home in the city.
LeBron James, in spite of this, was no friend of Drake’s tonight. He taunted him, as his Cavs blew the Raptors’ historic season apart. But, after the game was over, Drake got his hug from “The King” and fans started with their jokes, first if Drake went for a kiss, then about him being a bandwagon LeBron fan, and then about him having his diss record ready by daybreak.
