Last summer, NBA YoungBoy caught the attention of the masses and his mixtape buzz went national. Several platforms exist that capitalize off this new talent and how they emerge. Many of these popular mixtape rappers are signing to major labels.
Atlantic Records has suddenly emerged as the home to these labels, following what Asylum Records was doing, a decade ago. The label has signed Kodak Black and Cardi B, within the past two years. In the case of Cardi B, Atlantic Records spent $10 million to make it happen.
NBA YoungBoy will be joining Cardi B and Kodak Black over on the roster of Atlantic Records. It looks like he will be there for a little while, though he didn’t get the kind of deal Cardi B received. He has signed a five album deal with Atlantic Records for $2 million.
