NC police fatally tased Black man with heart problems
While the world was expressing outrage regarding Tyre Nichols’ fatal shooting, there was another Black man fatally victimized by the police. Only one state to the East, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Darryl Tyree Williams met his fate, on January 17. Now, his family has retained the services of Ben Crump, as they are now speaking out. Police bodycam footage has shown what law enforcement did to Darry Tyree Williams.
Darryl Tyree Williams was in his parked vehicle, when his life came to an untimely end. Typically, when a person is inside of their vehicle, they feel a semblance of safety. While a person’s car is not their home, it is their possession. However, there have been many Black people victimized by the police. As a result, it creates a feeling that certain people aren’t safe anywhere. Williams was initially targeted by law enforcement, because they suspected he had a substance on him.
Law enforcement believed Darryl Tyree Williams to have substances that were not legal in his possession. As a result, the police asked Williams and his passenger to exit the vehicle for an illegal search. After repeatedly asking why, the situation escalated. A dollar bill with a white substance on it led to an altercation. After that, Officer C. D. Robinson pulled out his taser, and began tasering Williams until he succumbed to the injuries.
There were six officers involved. Following Williams’ passing, they have been placed on leave.
