NC restaurant owners charged with multiple restaurant break-ins
Two Fayetteville restaurant owners, Robert Harris and Yonaria Locklear, are facing serious charges after being accused of multiple break-ins across the Triangle area. The pair, who own “The Vegan Spot,” appeared in Wake County Court on Thursday via video link to address charges related to several break-ins, including breaking and entering and property damage.
The break-ins date back to November 2023. There were six incidents reported in Cary alone on the same night. Authorities in Cary collaborated with police departments in Raleigh, Apex, Morrisville, and Wake Forest. As a result, utilizing surveillance footage from affected restaurants to identify the suspects. Fayetteville restaurant owners Harris and Locklear were subsequently arrested.
Sgt. Kenric Alexander of the Cary Police Department emphasized the collaborative effort, stating:
“Whenever we have something like this, we’re constantly reaching out to say, hey, this is what we are experiencing in our city. Are you guys experiencing anything similar in your jurisdiction?”
During the court hearing, Locklear requested a bond reduction to manage her restaurant and support her three children. However, the judge denied the request. Locklear’s bond remains set at $160,000, while Harris’ bond is significantly higher at $3.5 million, also taking into account a probation violation.
The targeted restaurants suffered smashed doors and pried open cash boxes. Sgt. Alexander acknowledged the impact on the victims, saying, “No one likes to be victimized. These small business owners are hardworking individuals and they’re just trying to make a living, and it stinks when someone comes along and takes it from you.”
The case continues as authorities investigate the extent of the duo’s alleged criminal activities.
