Nebraska woman declared dead found breathing at funeral home

A 74-year-old Constance Glantz, of Nebraska, was declared dead at a nursing home but found breathing at a funeral home in Lincoln on Monday. The incident occurred after Glantz was transported from the nursing home to Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home around 9:44 a.m. An employee noticed she was breathing and immediately called 911 at approximately 11:44 a.m.

Funeral home staff performed CPR, and Glantz was taken to a local hospital where she remains alive. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, led by Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, is investigating the unusual case but has found no criminal intent from the nursing home.

“It’s a very unusual case,” Houchin stated during a press briefing. He mentioned that in cases of anticipated death without suspicious circumstances, contacting the coroner or local authorities isn’t mandatory.

Over the years, there have been quite a few cases of people being presumed dead and being alive. A few years ago, there was the case of a woman walking into her own funeral. Then, there were other situations where people actually woke up during their own funeral. However, in this case, this woman ended up being declared dead. But she was later found at the funeral home, breathing.

The investigation continues with no pending criminal charges.
