Nicki Minaj explains not working with City Girls
Nicki Minaj is getting ready to put out one of the biggest collaborations of 2022, on Friday, with “Do We Have A Problem?” This also includes Lil Baby, as he and Nicki announced last month, that they were in the studio together.
Nicki has been making more radio appearances lately as well, where she discussed who she could possibly face in a Verzuz, as well as a possible City Girls collaboration. Nicki spoke to The Morning Hustle, regarding the City Girls.
Nicki revealed that she saw a video online a few years ago, from the Miami duo, which weren’t very supportive of Nicki. City Girls appeared to side with Cardi B, in the beef with Cardi. JT also had a video, where she dissed Cardi and Nicki, before the fame. These still play roles in why a collaboration hasn’t happened, between Nicki and the City Girls.
“What I will say is that a few years ago, I saw a video of them and I asked someone on their team at that time. I asked someone about them,” Nicki explained. “I was thinking about jumping on a record. One of their records that was out at the time. Then, social media happened with when people will say things about someone, like an artist. Whether they tweet it or say it. Or whether it gets pulled out of them in an interview or something like that.”
“An artist is a human being first. If I was about to go out to dinner with you tonight and then I get something that says, ‘Yo, she don’t really f*ck with you like that. She was saying this and she don’t really like you…’ I’m not gonna go out to dinner with you anymore because I know that I like you but you don’t really like me. Why would I work with someone that doesn’t like me?”
A Nicki Minaj and City Girls collaboration has definitely been in high demand for a while now, but it appears that this may not happen for a while. It’ll be interesting to see if the group responds to Nicki’s latest comments, with the intentions of hoping to fix the relationship.
