Back in February 2021, Nicki Minaj lost her father, Robert Maraj, to a hit-and-run incident, in New York. He was 64. The man who committed this crime, was identified as Charles Polevich.
Today, Polevich plead guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and one count of tampering with physical evidence. Both are classified as felonies, according to TMZ. Polevich was initially facing seven years in prison, but this doesn’t appear to end up happening.
Judge Howard Sturiun is planning on sentencing Polevich to one year in jail, performing community service, and suspending his drivers license. Polevich is scheduled to be sentenced on August 3.
Nicki remained quiet about the incident for a while, but finally opened up about it, on her website. She expressed how much her father meant to her, and how big of a loss this was, saying “I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life.”
Nicki has since been releasing plenty of new music. She put several new songs on the rerelease of her 2009 “Beam Me Up Scotty” mixtape last year. This year, she released singles such as “Do We Have A Problem?” featuring Lil Baby, “Bussin” featuring Lil Baby, and “We Go Up,” featuring Fivio Foreign.
