Nikola Jokic led the Denver Nuggets on a historic run, this summer. The Nuggets earned the first seed in the Western Conference for the first time in NBA history. After their sweep of the Lakers, in the Conference Finals, the Nuggets reached the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. In five games, they dispatched the Miami Heat in five games to win the title. Until the last three games, Denver owned the NBA’s best record. In Detroit, Jokic lost his cool, and got ejected.

Nikola Jokic has consistently improved his play, every year. In 2021 and 2022, Jokic had consecutive seasons where he won the MVP. The 2022 season saw Jokic win the MVP, despite barely making it into the playoffs. Earning the sixth seed, Jokic’s Nuggets lost in the first round to the resurgent Golden State Warriors, who went onto win the title. The following season, Jokic had the Nuggets in position to win the title, and they did just that.

Nikola Jokic won the 2023 NBA Finals MVP and he would like to repeat that honor in 2024. In order to make that happen, the Nuggets have to first succeed in the regular season. After starting this season 9-1, the Nuggets lost two straight. Coming to Detroit, to play the Pistons, the Nuggets face one of the NBA’s worst teams. Despite this, the Pistons played a tough game. A no-call left Jokic upset, so he ended up cursing at one of the referees, which led to his ejection.
