A decade ago, Omarion was on the brink of becoming what Trey Songz and Chris Brown have become, the respective kings of R&B. Initially the leader of R&B boy band, B2K, and the younger brother of the established Marques Houston, the future was bright for Omarion. Even after the group publicly disbanded, Omarion ventured into a successful solo career, releasing two albums on the heels of each other.

Omarion was out of the spotlight for three years, following the releases of his singles, but returned when he was signed by Lil Wayne to Young Money. Only days after being signed to Young Money, Omarion left and he signed with Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group. Again, Omarion left and set up his own label, which was distributed by EMI Records.

Two years out of the public eye, Omarion resurfaced in a studio with Rick Ross, who had risen to become hip hop’s central figure during Omarion’s hiatus. At the Maybach Music press conference, Rick Ross revealed what many speculated when he announced Omarion as their new artist. Now calling himself Maybach O, Omarion spoke with Hot 97 about his decision to sign with Maybach Music.
