Opinions Welcome: Should Fabolous assert himself as King of New York and diss Kendrick Lamar?

Fabolous 19When Fabolous first came into the game, a lot of people compared him to Jay-Z. Because he had a penchant for making hit records, most assumed Fabolous would eventually step up and gain his position in the game game. Safe to say, a lot of pressure has been placed on the Brooklyn emcee.

New York City has needed a “King of New York” for a long time and, quite frankly, fans got tired of waiting on Fabolous. Several magazine articles from 2003 through 2011 circulated pointing out the woes of the birthplace. Since 2011, New York hip hop’s been on an upswing with guys like A$AP Rocky and French Montana stepping up.

No one will deny how far New York City has come, but no one is saying the hip hop scene is officially “back.” Kendrick Lamar caused a lot of controversy when he jumped on the new Big Sean single, “Control.” On the record, Kendrick Lamar proclaimed he is the King of New York and he’s from Los Angeles.

Not even a year ago, there were a lot of magazines talking about the new era of hip hop where West and East Coast hip hop artists all befriend and collaborate with each other. Most people felt the East/West feud was yesterday’s news, but Kendrick Lamar has sparked major debate with “Control.” A lot of critics said someone in New York City needs to get back at Kendrick Lamar and Fabolous took to his Twitter and inquired about any open studios.

Don’t talk about it, be about it. How does the public feel? Should Fabolous assert himself as King of New York, finally, and diss Kendrick Lamar.
