It’s wrong how they’re doing Paul Pierce, on Twitter. No, he isn’t on the level of LeBron James, but the role he’s played is also important. There was a time when nearly every team had a franchise-level player and this is what Paul Pierce was for the Boston Celtics.

Paul Pierce wasn’t quite the man able to hold the Celtics together, for the long haul, though. So, the Celtics became the first NBA team, in the modern era, to begin stacking superstars. In the Celtics’ case, it worked, and they won Pierce’s lone title in 2008.

That playoff run sparked Paul Pierce’s rivalries with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. The NBA was trying to promote a Kobe/LeBron rivalry that never really came to be, but Paul Pierce gave them both fits. But, historically, both overcame Paul Pierce, and his commentary in tonight’s game didn’t reflect that, so Twitter went in on him.
