For whatever reason, the year of 2005 saw Houston explode onto the hip hop map. To be clear, Houston has been a fixture, in hip hop, since the 1980s. But, 2005 saw an explosion, with Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall, later Chamillionaire, all having huge runs.
By 2007, Houston was almost nonexistent, with Paul Wall having the most longevity, out of that crew. Currently, Houston is hot, with several rappers, mainly Travis Scott and Megan Thee Stallion leading the way, among many. Now, the veterans are getting into other ventures.
Paul Wall recently called into Hot 97, speaking to Ebro and Rosenberg, discussing his Grillz business. Being the legend he is, they also discussed the Houston hip hop scene, before going into the story behind the “Drive Slow” single. Forever an artist, Paul Wall spoke on his new album, as well.
