The Chicago hip hop scene has been on a comeback for a while, as the veteran emcees, Common, Kanye West, and Twista began releasing new music again. However, in 2011, Paypa began making noise. Signed to SRC Records, Paypa has been dominating the mixtape scene, but has been overshadowed by Chief Keef over the past few weeks.
Paypa still has his following, being selected by many hip hop publications as the future of the rap game. HipHopDX.com recently selected Paypa as their “DXNext” artist, speaking with him about his history in the rap game and his next mixtape Henny on the Rocks 3. For Paypa, it has been a bit of a struggle, as he gained success and then his label was shut down in 2010.
Signed to the Baltimore-based Behind Da Scenes Records, Paypa was on the West Coast, working with veteran artists. Despite the label being shut down, his work with DJ Drama and DJ Khaled led to the SRC deal. Paypa credits much of his success from living in both the midwest and the West Coast.
Rapping since he was very young, Paypa has lived all around the United States and sees himself in a good position, as he prepares for the release of Henny on the Rocks 3, which is another adaptation of his style. Due to all of the things, which have happened to him over the years, Paypa has been forced to make changes. Paypa has worked with rising rappers all over the country and with his career taking off, having been offered to sign with various labels and choosing SRC/Universal, the future is bright for Paypa.
