Until the 2000s, North Carolina’s hip hop scene was virtually nonexistent. But, late in the summer of 2001, North Carolina rose to prominence on the national hip hop scene through the voice of Petey Pablo. When he emerged, Petey Pablo released his single, “Raise Up,” now regarded as a classic.

Three years later, Petey Pablo returned with his sophomore album and another hit record. At a time when most had written Petey Pablo off as a one hit wonder, he came back with another hit. “Freek-A-Leek” was another major hit for Petey Pablo, but he has been silent since then.

Petey Pablo went to prison in 2010 for gun smuggling and was sentenced to thirty-five years in prison. Today, TMZ is reporting Petey Pablo is a free man four months ahead of schedule and he is preparing to take over the rap game, once again. It’s been said that Petey Pablo has already reunited with Timbaland.
