Through all of the reported struggles Jay Z endured in the launch of TIDAL, he has had a supporter in Prince. When Jay Z did the TIDAL concert during the Baltimore riots, Prince agreed to be the headliner. The streaming wars all started when Jay Z launched TIDAL.
The original concept of TIDAL was for artists to own the service and stream their music and videos. In doing this, the artists would be making money directly off their work. Understandably, figures in the music business had a problem with this.
Prince held a rare press conference and he spoke on the changes in the music industry. Of course, Prince went through his own battles with the music business, losing his name in the process. However, Prince gained all of it back and gave Jay Z his support, citing how he, an artist, put $100 million of his own money into a venture meant to make money for the artists.
