Prosecutors to retry YMW Melly’s double murder case after mistrial
On Saturday afternoon, shocking news broke out of Broward County, that YNW Melly’s double murder trial concluded in a mistrial. That was as a result of a judge ruling this, after the jury couldn’t come to a unanimous decision. Furthermore, many believed that Melly could be released from prison soon, due to this being the result in his trial.
However, Melly isn’t completely off the hook yet. According to NBC 6 Miami, prosecutors are seeking to retry the double murder case. Therefore, a status hearing is set for July 28. However, there is still no official date set yet, for a retrial.
Melly has been incarcerated since January 2019, after being accused of shooting and killing two childhood friends with fellow friend, YNW Bortlen. This reported shooting occurred back in October 2018, as Christopher Thomas Jr. and Anthony Williams were the victims. Furthermore, Melly and Mortlen supposedly staged a drive-by to avoid getting caught.
2018 was also the year that Melly started seeing stardom, as he went viral with his “Murder On My Mind” single. That appeared on his “I Am You” project, as Melly later went on to release his “We All Shine” album in January 2019.
