Before she became one of the most-popular actresses in Hollywood, Queen Latifah was one of the most-popular femcees in the game. Popular during the golden era of hip hop, Queen Latifah soon began making the transition from being a rapstress to an actress. Once she starred in her “Living Single” sitcom, Queen Latifah has been more of an actress than a rap star.

While Queen Latifah’s primary role is that of an actress, she has not forgotten her hip hop roots. From time-to-time, Queen Latifah will return with a new rap album, or a new single. Queen Latifah has also released a blues album, but she will soon be returning to the rap game. The upcoming Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival will feature a performance from none other than Queen Latifah.

In her first-ever LGBT performance, Queen Latifah will be the headlining talent. Queen Latifah will be joined by many other LGBT-approved artists, including MC Ongina, Evelyn “Champagne” King, MC Carlease, and The Village People. The event is set to take place on May 19, 2012 and the LGBT released a statement regarding Queen Latifah’s performance.

“From Hip-Hop to R&B, Pop to standards, Queen Latifah is the voice of our generation and her concert here will be phenomenal,” said Long Beach Pride Festival co-President Pat Crosby. “For her to make her worldwide Pride debut here in Long Beach is a tremendous testament to the popularity of our celebration and the strength of our community.”
