The incident occurred in Aurora, where Solomon Galligan, 33, entered the school grounds and tried to grab a child. The students’ immediate reaction to run and alert others likely deterred further actions from Galligan. Aurora police later identified and arrested him, thanks to the students’ descriptions.
The child’s mother, identified only as Ayala, expressed her gratitude to CBS Denver. She praised the students for their bravery and quick thinking. Ayala also provided details about the suspect, noting he had white powder on his face and smelled of alcohol.
However, Ayala and other parents are now raising concerns about the school staff’s responsiveness. Reportedly, some teacher assistants were distracted on their phones during the incident. This has led to calls for better vigilance and quicker staff responses to ensure student safety.
Galligan was charged with attempted kidnapping and his bond was set at $25,000. His criminal background includes a 2012 conviction for failing to register as a sex offender.
