Yesterday, R. Kelly’s ex-wife Drea Kelly and their daughter Buku Abi both appeared on TMZ Live to discuss his child support situation. He owes Drea $32,000 in back child support payments to help Buku get through school. She recently told a judge that she wants a strict deadline set on when he needs to pay up the money. Drea added that he needs to do whatever to pay her the amount, even if it means working at Del Taco.
Per TMZ, R. Kelly has now issued a response to his ex-wife via his crisis manager, Darrell Johnson. Johnson says that Drea and Buku “underscore the ridiculousness of him paying child support to an adult.” Buku is 21 but Kelly is obligated to be financially responsible for her until she’s 23.
Kelly also thinks that Drea just wants the child support money to help her own lifestyle. He took offense to her Del Taco comment by saying that Drea needs a job and that McDonald’s and Burger King are options. Kelly’s lawyer, Steven Greenberg, also added the singer is tired of Drea bashing him and that she needs to get a life.
Kelly is dealing with a lot of other legal situations as well. In February, he was hit with 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault with four underage girls over the years and recently, got 11 added for his involvement with another underage girl. No trial dates are set yet though.
