With so many 1990s rappers still making music well into the second decade of the 21st Century, subjects from 1990s hip hop still remain. Hip hop is still impacted by the deaths of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. The impact the two rappers have had on the game is evidenced by the tributes provided for them on several hip hop media outlets.

During the mid-1990s, the New York hip hop scene was known for The Notorious B.I.G. and his crew. However, in New York City, there were several rappers and crews making names for themselves. The Wu-Tang Clan was among them, with Raekwon releasing his own solo music during this period of time. While not known on a national scale, those who mattered knew Raekwon.

The Notorious B.I.G. had a minor lyrical rivalry with the Wu-Tang Clan, but still worked with Method Man. If he had lived longer, many feel B.I.G. would have also worked with Raekwon. Last week, Raekwon spoke on this subject with Sway Calloway for MTV RapFix. He said the two would have likely joined forces to release a collaborative album, despite the rivalry between their two crews. The Notorious B.I.G. was just as big of a fan of Wu-Tang, as he was a rival. Lil’ Kim backed this up during her interview with RapFix.
