Rhode Island Senator Tiara Mack has no regrets about twerk video
Over the past week, 28-year-old Rhode Island Senator Tiara Mack has had the internet on fire. She went viral on TikTok, after twerking in a bikini, while on her head. This drew a lot of backlash on social media, due to many believing that a Senator shouldn’t be doing this.
For Mack though, she has been drowning out the noise. She’s made it known that she as an Ivy League degree, and is successful as a Senator Mack is also the first openly queer Black woman elected to the Rhode Island Senate. She also spoke with TMZ this weekend, and has on regrets about the viral video.
“I am not going to apologize for being myself,” Mack explained. “Or for living a joyful life, and for being unapologetically myself in every instant and enjoying a beautiful day. I’m not going to apologize for showing exactly and telling exactly who I am every single step of the way of my campaign. For the folks who voted for me, they know that Tiara Mack is a silly, authentic, and sometimes bold leader.”
Mack added that she is showing that young and queer Black woman can have fun, all while making impacts in communities. She also joked about having enough “cake,” to make twerk videos, like this viral one.
“I will not apologize for showing young, queer Black women that they can live a joyful life and still make a positive impact on their community, and I will not apologize for being able to do a headstand, and I will not apologize for, you know, having enough cake to twerk.”
