Since 2013, Drake has consistently remained at the top of the hip hop world. Playing by the new rules, Drake is winning off random tracks and mixtapes. That propelled him to a historic run in 2015 and he also has his own label.
Names such as Jay Z have made it essential for artists to also be savvy on the business side. Seeing how Drake took early advice from Jay Z, his label should come as no surprise. The roster is now rounded out and it includes Roy Wood$, a popular fellow Toronto emcee.
Roy Wood$ is now firmly in Drake’s camp, for the obvious reasons, but in 2013, he was on the “Drake is soft” campaign, too. Despite Drake’s commercial success in 2013, he was still facing jokes about being soft. On his 2013 single, “Pandora’s Box,” Roy Wood$ addressed the Drake/Chris Brown beef and called him a “pussy.”
