Hip hop went from being a trend to a viable genre of music behind the efforts of the legendary Run-DMC. The popularity of the group established Russell Simmons as a record executive and led to the formation of Def Jam. Through the success of the group, such stars as LL Cool J were born and the Queens hip hop scene was formed.
Run-DMC has enjoyed success in recent years, though the roles have changed. Run has since become a preacher and goes by Rev Run. A few years ago, Rev Run became a reality television star with Run’s House. DMC has remained relevant and has his own solo comeback in the works. Ten years ago, Jam Master Jay was brutally murdered.
While hip hop forerver mourns the loss of Jam Master Jay, they celebrate the legend which is Run-DMC. The duo will reunite when they perform in Austin, Texas at the Fun Fun Fun Fest on November 24. In addition to the Run-DMC set, DMC will also perform a solo set. A portion of the proceeds of the event will be donated to the JMJ Music Foundation.
