Earlier this year, seventeen year old Florida resident, Trayvon Martin, was brutally murdered on his way back from a snack run. In the months since his murder, there has been much media attention given to the situation, which is still ongoing. With all the discussion about Martin, the days have turned into weeks and months. Yesterday was Mother’s Day and the first for Sybrina Fulton without her son.
Russell Simmons has been among the hip hop figures who has been invested in seeking justice for Trayvon Martin. Simmons reached out to Martin’s parents, befriending them and has been doing all he can to help. On Mother’s Day, Simmons helped Sybrina Fulton, as he posted a video she released on Mother’s Day, discussing violence.
Speaking on Trayvon Martin’s mother, Russell Simmons said she was a good friend of his and her video discussing gun violence was powerful and something the people need to hear. For those who missed the video, Russell Simmons posted it to Global Grind. The video is also available here on Hip Hop Vibe below.
