Russell Westbrook is six years removed from his MVP season. In the years since then, Westbrook has had plenty of struggles. Last season, all of these struggles mounted, as the Lakers struggled mightily. A team expected to contend for a championship ended up missing the play-in tournament. This season was supposed to be the reboot. After a 2-12 start, the Lakers are 20-24 after last night’s win over the Rockets. During this game, Russ got into it with the coaches.

Russell Westbrook eagerly wanted to play in Los Angeles, for the Lakers. However, the past decade has seen the Los Angeles Clippers rise to prominence. During the 2010s, the Clippers were actually the better Los Angeles team. As a result, the Clippers became a destination. After losing Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, the Clippers were able to attract Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Meanwhile, the Lakers landed LeBron James and Anthony Davis, with Westbrook joining last season.

Russell Westbrook joined the Lakers and immediately began to struggle. As a result, he faced a lot of backlash. While the Lakers are barely two years removed from a championship, they have struggled since their 2012 playoff appearance. In that time, the Lakers had a seven year playoff drought, en route to only making the playoffs twice since then. This season, they are also looking in at the postseason. Last night, Westbrook’s frustrations boiled over, so he told the coaches to do better. LeBron James intervened.
