Russell Westbrook breaks the bank, signs $205 million extension to remain with Oklahoma City Thunder until 2023

In the 2016-2017 season, Russell Westbrook had one of the best individual seasons in NBA history. With the Thunder losing Kevin Durant in free agency to Golden State, Russ really stepped it up. He was determined for OKC to live on without KD.

Russell Westbrook was a walking highlight reel and his performance kept people glued to the Thunder. Ultimately, the team wasn’t as good, going from a 55-27 record to 47-35. On top of that, they went from nearly beating the Warriors and going to the Finals to losing in round 1.

Still, Russell Westbrook’s efforts garnered him the MVP of 2017. Then, the Thunder managed to pull of trades for Paul George and Carmelo Anthony to let him know they are serious. Russ is a believer, signing a five-year extension, worth $205 million.
