Fans wonder why Saweetie got Best New Artist Grammy nomination
The Best New Artist category at the Grammys does have fans confused at times, every year. This is usually due to nominees being placed in this category, who have been stars for quite some time.
This was the case for Saweetie on Sunday night, at the Grammys ceremony, in Las Vegas. She, Arooj Aftab, Jimmy Allen, Baby Keem, FINNEAS, Glass Animals, Japanese Breakfast, The Kid LAROI, and Arlo Parks were all nominated. Rodrigo went on to win, in this category.
Saweetie being nominated had fans confused, due to her being a popular artist for a while now. Many knew of Saweetie in early 2019, due to her breakout hit single, “My Type,” taking off. At the time, it peaked at number 21, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is also 3x platinum in the US. Due to Saweetie’s latest Best New Artist nomination, many fans on Twitter agreed that she shouldn’t have been placed in that category.
Saweetie had a very solid 2021 though, as she had one of the hottest songs of the year, in “Best Friend.” That also featured a 2022 Grammy-winner, in Doja Cat. Best Friend peaked at number 14, and is 2x platinum. Saweetie also put out her “Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1” EP. Multiple endorsements were secured as well, such as with McDonald’s and Crocs.
