A tragic incident happened in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. As a result, a police officer has been placed on administrative leave. He accidentally ran over and killed a 66-year-old woman, Sandra “Sandy” Schultz-Peters, with a patrol pickup truck.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Thursday. Schultz-Peters was enjoying the beach when she was struck by the police vehicle. Bystanders, including Dennis Miller, described the shocking scene.

“I heard somebody yell, ‘There’s somebody that’s been run over,’” Miller recounted to WBTW-TV.

Schultz-Peters was immediately transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The Horry County Police Department called the incident a “tragedy.” Also, they confirmed that the involved officer has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. They emphasized a commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation. Thus, fully cooperating with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

“We are providing any access and information required to complete their investigation,” the department said in a statement.

Investigators returned to the scene on Friday, using drones to collect additional evidence and understand the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
