ScHoolboy Q talks gangsta rap with MTV News [VIDEO]

On Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin,'” Drake raps about how the game changed from being rugged to being more attention-driven. This sparked a new era in hip hop where rappers started openly beefing with each other again. Then, ScHoolboy Q and many other stars began emerging on the mixtape scene.
Because of his Los Angeles background as a member of the Crips gang, ScHoolboy Q is considered by many as a gangsta rapper. However, ScHoolboy Q has argued that he’s attempting to reform himself. Being a part of the TDE movement, ScHoolboy Q’s music really isn’t very gangsta-oriented.
Rob Markman from MTV talked to ScHoolboy Q and they broke down the evolution of gangsta rap. There are several rappers who some have considered to be carrying the torch of gangsta rap. However, ScHoolboy Q said he doesn’t believe gangsta rap even exists anymore.
