The rivalry the NBA wanted, but was denied, was Kobe Bryant vs. LeBron James. Once these two asserted themselves as the kings of the NBA, during the 2008-2009 season, fans wanted them to battle. But, when they did, Cleveland took easy wins over LA.
None of it mattered, though, because Kobe Bryant was the one winning championships, while LeBron James had playoff struggles. By the time LeBron was winning titles, Kobe was on the downside of his career. So, fans had to settle for a strong friendship and deep bond, instead.
Tonight, the Lakers honored Kobe Bryant, before taking on the Portland Trail Blazers. Of course, this meant having LeBron James speak, but before that, his emotions got him, and that got Twitter. Since he came into the game, LeBron was always the toughest of the tough, but seeing him break down made Twitter break down.
