Selena’s legacy is one that has lasted for nearly 2 decades. The Mexican American singer was a superstar of Tejano music but became a worldwide sensation during the 90’s. Selena Quintanilla, was headed for iconic status until her untimely death in March of 1995. Now almost 30 years later, her estate releases an official video with never before seen footage.The new video Tú, Sólo Tú which released Tuesday, features never before seen clips of Selena. The song originally debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs list back in July of 1995.
Selena was killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the woman who ran Selena’s fan club and managed her boutiques. The relationship between Selena and Yolanda grew hostile when she was accused of stealing from the Tejano singer. Selena confronted Yolanda which led to her shooting Selena in the back, tragically killing her. Selena’s death still remains one of the most devastating losses in music.
Selena’s family have never let her legacy or her music be forgotten. In 1997 two years after her death, a movie biography was created starring Jennifer Lopez. The film which included her family’s input shed light on the amazing singer’s career and the huge impact she left on the world. Selena also has a wax figure at Madame Tussauds and a limited edition MAC lipstick collection. Selena’s music, style and influence will continue inspiring generations to come.
