Serena Williams clowns Drake at ESPYS
Serena Williams, renowned tennis champion and occasional host of the annual ESPYS, stirred up social media during Thursday night’s event with a memorable roast aimed at rapper Drake. The tennis icon took the stage to humorously highlight the influence of Kendrick Lamar’s music, particularly referencing a non-existent song “Not Like Us,” which doesn’t align with Lamar’s catalog.
In her jest-filled speech, Serena humorously cautioned against picking a fight with Kendrick Lamar, citing imaginary repercussions in Drake’s case. “If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us should ever pick a fight with Kendrick. He will make your hometown not like you. The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re gonna Forest Gump him, seats taken,” she playfully remarked.
Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” video went on to be released on July 4, and amassed an impressive 20 million views, in 24 hours. Currently, it stands at over 48 million views. Moreover, many view Not Like Us as the biggest record of 2024. In that first week of May, Kendrick dropped off four Drake diss tracks, in total.
