Currently, the state of Kentucky is at the center of a lot of news. Not only is the death of Breonna Taylor still daily news, as people demand justice, but their senator, Mitch McConnell, is up for re-election. His time as the Senate leader has been controversial and he is in a close race.
Shakia Harris tried to participate in this race, presumably to vote to decide on the candidate to run against McConnell. However, when she tried to vote, Harris was turned away. She was repeatedly turned away, despite giving her ID, and was identified as another person.
Harris recorded a video of her experience, trying to vote, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which included audio of the poll workers. She would share this on Facebook, where the county Clerk of Court would speak out. In a series of personal messages, Sue Carole Perrry accused her of trying to stir the racial pot, later saying she could have shared the audio, but didn’t to save her embarrassment, asking why she was upset, since no one was rude to her, and she was allowed to vote.
