According to sources close to the situation, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are both having trouble in the lead up to their super bowl performance. The exact word used to describe the situation between the two was “icy”.
As with many previous super bowl performers, Shakira and Lopez are having a hard time fitting their acts into the allotted time constraints. Right now the overall performance is running way longer than the time amount given by the NFL production team.
To make matters worse, both performers aren’t really being friendly with one another. It’s not their beefing per say, but there’s some tensions due to the time constraints. There were initial plans for them them perform together, but that’s been canceled. They’re trying to see if they can briefly appears on stage at the same time towards the end of the set. Supposedly, another reason for the tension is because Shakira wasn’t initially apart of the show. J-Lo feels that Shakira was forced upon her.
“They’re telling everyone that limiting how much time Jennifer and Shakira spend on stage together has a lot to do with their different styles of music, but others close to production say that it has more to do with the fact that Jennifer was forced into sharing the performance with Shakira in the first place. Initially, she believed the halftime show was hers alone — only to have the NFL and Pepsi (the Super Bowl halftime show sponsor) add Shakira later.”
Well I can’t say I’m not surprised given the diva reputations of both performers. Also, if the source is correct, then they are also right regarding to two different styles of music.
